Family size tents give great accommodation

Many people like to go camping on their own, loving the feel of hiking over rugged country and then bedding down in a small tent on the side of a mountain somewhere. But for most people, camping is something to do with the family, and over recent years as camping has become ever more popular, the number of large family tents on the market has grown exponentially. There is now a wide range of choice of family size tents, especially concerning styles and sizes, not to mention the various materials that the tents are made of. The choice includes family cabin tents, dome tents, and tents of both single and multi-room versions, as well as tents with a huge amount of storage space, sunshades and awnings which enable you to sit outside while preparing your evening meal.

One of the main kinds of tents gaining popularity over the past few years is the dome family tent, a particular style which is extremely strong, and can be used in extreme weather conditions. However, most family camping trips will be during the summer, when the weather is fairly good, and so no need to worry about having a strong tent, although the dome tent can be a favorite simply because it can be so easy to erect.

Roof ventilation

These tents are usually available in three-person and four-person styles, with most being available in either one-door or two-door models. Some dome tents are windowless, but most do have windows and also a hatch for roof ventilation, which should enable you to cut down on the amount of compensation that will form within the tent. Some of the tents have dividers so that the one space can be divided up into smaller rooms, while the smaller rooms can be opened up to make one large family space.

If you are looking for a great deal of space, you really should be looking at the family camping tent, which can provide almost the same amount of space as a chalet or small bungalow. Most of these have several rooms, with a central room that can be used to prepare food and act as a dining area. It may also have side rooms, sometimes two or more, to be used as bedrooms. Most of these tents have dividers which can be put up to turn the space into smaller sleeping areas, or taken down to make for one large room. These multi-room tents are a great choice.

Sierra design models

One popular family tent is the Lightning XT 4 Tent from Sierra Designs. Retailing at around $400, it is a lightweight 4-person, 3-season tent made with ultralight mesh and nylon and gives floor space of 92in x 95in, and a 49in height. The tent has two doors and two vestibules, which give good storage for camping gear. It is an easy set-up tent due to the snap-in Jake’s Foot corners. The tent covering is 40D HT nylon, with the floor made of 70D nylon.

Another model worth looking at for those in need of a large family tent is the Nexus 12-man dome tent. This costs about $475.00 and measures 26 inches x 21 inches. It is has waterproof rainflys which are 3000mm polyurethane-coated and seam taped, while mesh vents give good air flow and keep insects out of the tent. Sleeping rooms can be added as need be, or taken out to make for one single large room. The ground sheet is waterproof polyethylene, with polyester guy ropes with reflective thread.

Three season tents

The Eureka Condo family tent is another choice. It is a 3-season tent made from nylon taffeta with a floor made from nylon oxford. There is a rainfly made from Stormshield cloth and interior storage pockets. The tent sleeps 12 people in three rooms with dimensions of 10.5 ft x 20 ft.

Whichever tent you choose, you should also make sure there is enough storage, since lack of storage can make the tent difficult to use. Many types of tent, particularly the cabin variety, will provide external and internal storage pockets, as well as ceiling hooks and a loft space. The main thing to decide is how many people will be going camping, because this will determine the tent size. After that it will be the season, since for most people a three-season tent will fit the bill, and it is only for those hardy people who like camping in the winter that a durable 4-season tent is a necessity.
